voluntary opportunities
ESCA exists to help students get involved in charitable activities whilst at university and beyond.
To do this we need input from all areas of the student community. To that end, ESCA offers all students the opportunity to join the Student Management Committee. Each year we setup a number of small teams to deal with specific events or appeals (ranging from the Race to Paris to organising World AIDS Day events). These teams will be made up of students with a wide range of skills and will allow you to gain valuable experience in both a specific field you know, and ones you don't. They are also intended to provide you with an insight into voluntary sector employment, as well as giving you the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of many people in the local community and further a field.
If you are interested in joining the Student Management Committee, have a look through the rest of the website and at the events and activities that we run, and pick out an area that interests you the most. We can't guarantee that we will be able to place you in your first preference team, but we'll try our best to match you up accordingly. Likewise, if you don't have any preference, don't worry, we will meet up with you for an informal chat and place you after that. Once you have decided what area of our work interests you, click on the 'apply' link and download an application form. All you have to do then is get the form filled in and back to us, and we will get in touch to arrange an informal chat about ESCA, the team structures, and our plans for the future...
Successful candidates will get a personally tailored volunteer agreement, not only outlining what ESCA expects from you, but also what you can expect from ESCA in terms of training, support and accreditation.
No matter what you want to do with ESCA, you will not require any specific experience; however, some evidence of an interest in the preferred field or the charity sector in general would be desirable. All fully matriculated students at the University of Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt University, Napier University, Queen Margaret University and Edinburgh College of Art are eligible to stand for the positions.
