the charity...

When Jordi's sister Patricia was diagnosed with small-cell lung cancer, he and his family researched many websites of charitable organisations all over the world which have the fight against cancer as their main objective, not only to find out more about lung cancer, but also the possible treatments.

Unfortunately they found out that, at present, there is NO effective treatment for patients with small-cell lung cancer and the time from diagnosis to death can be as little as one to one and a half years.

After her death two years ago in their native Catalonia, Jordi decided to set himself a real challenge. He wanted to do something to raise money for cancer research and consequently he chose the Association for International Cancer Research (AICR) as his charity.

AICR supports fundamental research into the causes of cancer in areas that are relatively underfunded or unexplored compared with those funded by other major cancer research organisations. Jordi said, "this is one of the reasons I decided to raise money for AICR, as well as the truly international nature of the organisation (AICR supports a large variety of cancer research projects in all corners of the world) and the fact that AICR is based in St Andrews, Scotland".

In this way Jordi is aiming to bring together his desire to keep the memory of his sister alive, to do something to help future cancer patients all over the world, and to support a Scottish charity.
