constitution and structure

Although ESCA dates back to the mid 1800's, the appeal was formally reconstituted in 2003 as both a recognised charity and registered company.

The aim of this was to reflect the changes in charity law and to provide a solid base for the development and growth of the Appeal.

As a Scottish Charity ESCA work within the rules and regulations of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and are monitored by OSCR, the charity regulator. As a company, ESCA are bound by the rules laid down in the Companies Act and regulated by Companies House. A copy of the Articles of Association, the Memorandum of Association and the Bye Laws of Edinburgh Students' Charities Appeal can be viewed by clicking on the preceeding links.

ESCA has two management committees, each of which has different responsibilities for the management of the charity. The Board of Trustees is the governing body of ESCA and is legally responsible for overall policy and financial management of the charity. There is also a Student Management Committee which has responsibility for the day-to-day running of the events and activities of ESCA. Between these two committees sits the Appeals Co-ordinator/Company Secretary, who ensures that both committees act coherently.

If you are interested in becoming a member of ESCA Student Management Committee, we have a range of positions available all year round. Click here to have a look at the specific job descriptions.
